Lansoprazole: A introductory look, uses and mechanism of action.

Lansoprazole, also known as Pantopraz, belongs to the proton pump inhibitor  group of medications. Lansoprazole is a medication that can be used to treat stomach ulcers caused by specific gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, acid reflux, and indigestion. Lansoprazole is also taken for a rare medical condition caused by cancer in the pancreas or gut called Zollinger-Ellison disorder. Lansoprazole was developed in 1987 and was approved for medical use in 1995 by FBA has been on the market since 1995. Lansoprazole is considered one of the best drugs for treating stomach acid problems. It can be purchased over-the-counter in pharmacies and grocery stores without requiring a prescription.

Lansoprazole is an acid reducer that works by reducing acid production in your stomach, which helps with digestion and relieves pain from indigestion or heartburn. It does this by inhibiting acid production by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in parietal cells. Doing so decreases the amount of gastric acid produced by these cells, meaningless acidity in one’s stomach. In addition, the drug wears off after several hours, so there is no need for a long-term course of treatment.

To reduce the risk of adverse reactions from lansoprazole overdose, it is advised not to exceed the prescribed dosage and avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication.

Guidelines about how to use Lansoprazole

Taking Lansoprazole once a day is the usual recommendation. You can take your dose either first thing in the morning or at bedtime, but it is best if you have 30 minutes between doses of this medicine and meals so that it has time to enter your bloodstream before food further slows its rate of absorption into our system through our stomach acidity which protects us from harmful medications like these with preservatives such as parabens (a kind chemical).

If we take two tablets per day, administer one just before breakfast – not lunch-and another around 4 pm. This will ensure more even distribution without worrying about timing issues.
